Korean pop sensation BTS is Malaysia’s most streamed artist; find out what’s yours!

Find out how musical your year was with Spotify Wrapped! With Drake’s album ‘Scorpion’ becoming one of the most streamed albums of 2018, get to know how Malaysia’s listening habits compare. The end of the year that lasted a decade is near; and it’s time for some fruitful and (possibly)  sobering throwback to the songs you listened to. Whether it shows you’ve gone through a terrible break up, found new love, or just worked out a lot – there’s something very addictive about looking back, and Spotify offers it here. If you have a Spotify account, find out how your year has been!

Spotify gives you a personality profile based upon the things you’ve listened to, charts the music you’ve listened to, and even makes a playlist out of your top 100. A cool feature includes them forming an entirely new playlist of genres or artists you wouldn’t explore by yourself, but at the same time suitable for your taste.

This type of data aggregation and curation really puts Spotify above other streaming services. Even if they get your stats wrong (or maybe it’s because your siblings hijacked your Spotify account that one time with Lil Pump repeats), it’s a humorous and comprehensive take on your year – especially if you’re a music lover looking to expand your interests.

Local listens in 2018

The most streamed artists in Malaysia include BTS, Khalid, Ed Sheeran, Jay Chou, and Ariana Grande. It is truly a new expansive year for hip hop and Malaysia has been at the centre of the current as well with an increasing fanbase size and streaming numbers. All Around the World

Canadian rapper and producer, Drake, didn’t just maintain his presence this year, but blew up even biger on another level of virality with the “Keke, do you love me?” memes, music video “God’s Plan”, and even Drake’s ‘invasion’ of Spotify. With 8.2 billion streams in 2018 alone, the Canadian rapper is Spotify’s most-streamed artist of all time. Following Drake, Post Malone, XXXTENTACION, J Balvin and Ed Sheeran (Sheeran was the Most Streamed artist of 2017) rounded out the Top 5 list of Most Streamed Artists in the world.

Ariana Grande’s 48 million plus monthly listeners raised her to the position of Spotify’s most streamed female artist. Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello (Havana came out this year. Told you 2018 lasted a decade) rounded out the Top 5 Most Streamed Females in the world, respectively.

Hip-hop continued to dominate Spotify’s charts in 2018, but last year’s surge in Latin music continued its incredible growth. Apart from that, EMO Rap and Lo-Fi Beats were two genres that grew the most in 2018.
