Older patriotic themes evoke a special kind of appeal and sense of nostalgia our contemporary tunes could never compare to.
This Merdeka, ethno-fusion band Nadir brings to us their rendition of the late Dato’ Sudirman’s Warisan.
“Selamat Hari Merdeka!! From all of us at Nadir, we present to you ‘Warisan’ by the late Datuk Sudirman Haji Arshad. Spread the love!” Nadir posted on Facebook.
Nadir is a music group consisting of Adil Johan, Farique Nadzir, Ashwin Gobinath, Lor Phaik Sim, Stephanie Tham, Santosh Logandran and Zaim Zaidee — all talented members and veterans in the local music scene who first came together in 2014.
Meaning ‘rare’ in Malay, the band strives to live up to its name by creating rhythms both rare and unique by fusing different life experiences and emotions. They often perform renditions of famous songs, producing pieces they then consider “Nadirised”.
Celebrating Merdeka in a special way this year, their ‘Nadirised’ version of Warisan proves to be a charming tribute to the original patriotic song.
