Local mobile games nab four prizes at inaugural International Mobile Game Awards Southeast Asia

THE International Mobile Game Awards (IMGA) has always had an eye for quality. Besides showcasing new developments and trends in the mobile gaming industry, it also claims to be the first entity in mobile gaming to recognise the quality of games like Angry BirdsInfinity Blade, Candy Crush and studios like Supercell (Clash of Clans, Clash Royale).

This year, IMGA introduced its first Southeast Asian edition. Launched in collaboration with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the first International Mobile Game Awards Southeast Asia (IMGSEA) was held yesterday.

Thirteen prizes were handed out during the night. Malaysia ended up the biggest winner, bagging four awards including Best Upcoming Game (Sara is Missing), Best Meaningful Play (ChemCaper), Best Quickplay Game (Super SteamPuff) and the Jury’s Honorable Mention (Sara is Missing).

“In this region, we found amazing creativity and world-class skills,” stated IMGA founder Maarten Noyons. These winners represent the best of the best in Southeast Asia today, with mobile games that are ready to be discovered by players worldwide.”

This year’s ceremony forms part of Level Up KL 2016 conference at the Intercontinental Hotel, an initiative by MDEC which aims to drive growth of Malaysia’s gaming industry.

Director of the Creative Content & Technologies Division at MDEC, Hasnul Hadi Samsudin added, “The breadth of genres and stories to be found within these games is huge and unique. MDEC is grateful that a partner like IMGA has helped to unearth the best of the best from Southeast Asia. We’re excited to have everyone know these winners and experience their games.”

The biggest winner at IMGA SEA’s inaugural installment was Boomzap Entertainment‘s (Philippines) strategy game Legends of Callasia which nabbed the coveted Excellence in Gameplay and Best Multiplayer Game prizes. Elsewhere, Inzen Studio‘s (Singapore) action-shooter Dark Dot scored Excellence in Innovation while Indonesian tofu business simulation Tahu Bulat was crowned the night’s Guilty Pleasure.

Super Steampuff

Winner: Best Quickplay Game
