FOLLOWING its successful presentation at one of the biggest film markets in the world, the Marché du Film, Pekak recently snagged two big awards at the International Motivational Film Festival (IMFF) Bridge of Arts in Russia.
Zahiril Azim, the male lead for Pekak, won Best Actor, while the film also took home Best Script; both beat out ten other candidates from all over the world.
IMFF, which lasted for four days from 24 – 28 August, was held in Rostov-on-Don, the capital city in South Russia. The main theme of this year’s edition was passion for achievement and movement.
The festival has a focus on what it deems “motivational” movies, or films which inspire people into taking action. Its selection comprises documentaries and feature films of all genres.
Produced by Lightbulb Pictures and presented by Grand Brilliance, Pekak is Mohd Khairul Azri (a.k.a Kroll Azry)’s first full-length feature. It depicts the romance between Uda (played by Zahiril Azim) who suffers from hearing impairment and schoolgirl Dara (played by Sharifah Amani) who wants freedom from her strict father.
The film has been receiving stellar reviews and praise from around the country (read our review here!) and was released to cinemas yesterday.
