SHE does fashion and textile, she’s an artist and a designer, and she’s an entrepreneur. She was once also a lecturer of design and history of architecture. Who could be all of this but the unmistakable Bono Stellar?
Nawwar Shukriah Ali has fortified herself as the bright and animated Bono with her art, set design and pretty much everything else she attempts within visual art.
She also owns Stellar Design, a multidisciplinary studio which has worked with a wide range of clients including Nelissa Hilman, November Culture, Better Cities, Yuna Room Records and many other boutique stores.
You are bound to come across her works one way or another, knowingly or otherwise. Scroll down — do any of these pieces look familiar?
Bono turns heads especially with her acrylic sheet art. A cross between vibrant pop art and geometrics, they appear almost psychedelic in nature. You might remember seeing them in the basement of the Urbanscapes House last month..

Her trademark outlandish style can be easily recognized anywhere, making their way all across Kuala Lumpur city, from the last Relationshift Exhibition at Hin Depot Art Centre to the Blink Blink Group Exhibition at Publika.
Bono is never afraid to experiment, and it’s tough to box into any particular discipline — we’ve once even caught her with her band at Minut Init‘s tribute to The Cure.
But be they batik paintings, theatre sets, transparent acrylic structure or 80’s rock, Bono proves that design comes unbounded and can thrive outside the exhibition space.
We hope you enjoy these examples of her work!
