UPON ending their four-year long hiatus with the release of Sepenuhnya Vol. 1 earlier in the year, Estranged has slowly rebuilt traction among local listeners.
It hasn’t been a very difficult task thanks to their hit collaboration with popular actress Fazura.
Already boasting more than 1,900,000 views on Youtube, “Hancur Aku” is barely done dominating local radio. It’s one of the band’s most popular songs to date, alongside tracks like “Inginkan Kau” and Anugerah Juara Lagu winner “Itu Kamu”.
While the song garners the established local band a wave of new fans, Estranged is keen on expanding their following and spreading their musical understanding with younger listeners.
The band will be traversing around the country for with a year-long tour around university campuses, beginning with Universiti Malaya on 6 March, but making their way back to Borneo to do Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Kolej Profesional MARA Kuala Beranang on 20 March.
Other stops include Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA and Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
Though rising in popularity once again, Estranged’s sponsorship drive for this particular project fell below expectations, although Drumasia Studio kindly agreed to provide musical equipment throughout the tour.
Frontman Rich Gimbang proudly stated that the band will continue pushing on with their original plans regardless of the circumstances.
“Walaupun usaha ini tidak disokong dengan penajaan seperti yang diharapkan, kami sedar yang kami tidak boleh berputus asa kerana selain mahu memenuhi jemputan para pelajar,” he explained, “kami sendiri berasa perlu untuk mendekati dan beramah mesra dengan peminat kami khususnya dan peminat muzik amnya.”
Once Estranged starts touring around Malaysian campuses, they hope to eventually find more collaborators and sponsors. Fans however are welcomed to contact the band via Instagram to invite them to perform at any particular campuses.
